Hey guys,
The Ring of Wealth has been a pretty controversial and hot topic of conversation across the RuneScape community for many, many years. With loads of different theories, conspiracies and misconceptions about what the ring does, how it interacts with drops and with what you can use it with - it's time to clarify it once and for all. I will only be talking about how it effects drops from monsters in terms of PvM - the effects of it in skilling is pretty well known by now and doesn't require explanation (but feel free to say otherwise and could update it in future).
I posted about it before in this forum but I'll briefly run through how the Ring of Wealth works in terms of drops.
The loot system in RuneScape is a random roll of a certain number, for example 100, and depending on what number you "roll" when the monster dies depends on what loot you get from it. Typically, all of the good or rare loot in this example would require you to roll a 1 out of 100. What the Ring of Wealth does is to decrease the roll number so that you have a better chance of getting the good stuff. For example, it would decrease the roll from 100 to 90 meaning that you have a 1/90 chance at rare stuff instead of 1/100.
There are two different scenarios that the Ring of Wealth does this, it is either only on specific rare drops or it is for the entire drop table where the rare drops are on 1/2/3/4/5 rolls. So for some real examples of this:
The chance of getting an Abyssal Whip is 1/1024 but with a Ring of Wealth it is 1/1017 and none of the regular drops are affected.
The bodyguards at Armadyl God Wars (Flockleader Geerin, Flight Kilisa and Wingman Skree) have a 1/128 chance to have another chance at the rare items from Kree'arra. With the Ring of Wealth equipped, this then becomes a 1/127 chance but it also reduces the chance at 1,000-2,000 coins because it decreased the whole drop table and not just the rare items.
For this reason, I'll be splitting the list of monsters effected by the Ring of Wealth into two: one that only has its rare drops effected by the Ring of Wealth and another that has its entire drop table effected as a result of wearing the ring.
Only rare drops effected

If you have ever wondered what is concrete and what is fiction regarding the ring of wealth, give that a nice read over :) He explains how random number generators are used to determine drops and how the ring affects them and which monsters :P
I, personally, never take off my ring of wealth unless drops are not involved, i figure it is better to be safe than sorry :P
