Look: Texas A&M Fans, Social Media React to Jim Schlossnagle Leaving for Texas (2024)

It’s been a rough 48 hours for Texas A&M fans, particularly those who followed the Aggies to Omaha last week.

The third-seeded Aggies’ baseball team dominated their way through the first half of the week, outscoring opponents 14-3 en route to securing their spot in the College World Series finals. In Game 1, the took down Tennessee 9-5 and appeared to be on the doorstep of doing the unthinkable.

A&M hasn’t won a national championship in football, baseball, or basketball since 1939, and the 85-year streak is one of the things Aggies are most tired of hearing about.

Unfortunately for them, things got even worse on Tuesday.

After choking away a CWS title by losing back-to-back games to top-ranked Tennessee, Texas A&M’s head coach, Jim Schlossnagle, reassured fans that he was right where he wanted to be in College Station.

“I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again.”

“I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you,” Schlossnagle told reporters after the loss. “But I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again.”

Less than 24 hours later, Schlossnagle took another job—and not just any job.

He did the unforgivable by leaving Texas A&M to take over at Texas, and on top of that, he took his entire staff with him.

In the span of 24 hours, Schlossnagle went from being the most beloved coach in Texas A&M baseball history to the most-hated man in College Station, and that rollercoaster was on full display on social media.

A note to Jim Schlossnagle:

If you're ever courted for another job while you're at Texas… don't say you're not gonna take the job, unless you're not gonna take the job. pic.twitter.com/FENiwXlHpe

The first thing Jim Schlossnagle should do is call the TexAgs reporter, Richard Zane, and apologize for insulting him about his question about the Longhorns' job after the defeat. Schlossnagle will never have any credibility again except in Austin.

In the past seven months, Texas A&M has fired their FB coach with a $77 million buyout, had to pivot from hiring Kentucky’s FB coach to hiring Duke’s, saw their AD leave for Ohio State, poached Nebraska’s AD, and now their baseball coach has left for their most bitter rival.

"What he has done in the last 24 hours says a lot about who he is as a person. This was just a job for him, and I hope in Austin they're prepared for it to be just a job for him there too."

Jim Schlossnagle is trash.

Not because he took a new job.

Because he’s a fraud and went after a reporter who asked a perfectly fair question.

Total loser.

I’d want my kid to play for Tony Vitello not that bum.#HornsDown

Very fair way to feel. Fair points of how you feel lied to and cheated on. I’m sorry for your loss. ♥️

Watching people who built a sizable part of their brand on bagging on OU fans for being upset about the Lincoln Riley departure then turn around and try and take Schlossnagle to task? Oooook. pic.twitter.com/8Ko33L46ZN
