Gators in the NFL: Week 1 - Florida Gators (2024)

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Football had 44 alumni named to NFL 53-man opening day rosters for the 2023 season.

This includes five newcomers, two of which made their NFL debuts Sunday, highlighted by the number four overall pick in this year's NFL draft, Anthony Richardson.

Offensive Highlights
Richardson made his highly anticipated debut for the Colts at home and put on a show for his new fans. The Gainesville native threw for 223 yards and led the team in rushing. AR collected his first NFL touchdown with his legs, then added six more points from the air. The NFL's new Superman bleeds Orange and Blue.

Richardson was removed in the final minute of the game following an awkward hit, but the Colts and Richardson confirmed that his removal was out of precaution, and that his injury is not serious.

Yet another fourth overall pick, Kyle Pitts, connected for the longest pass of the Panthers-Falcons contest in Atlanta, going for 34 yards (despite a P.I. penalty from former gators teammate C.J. Henderson) in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, putting the falcons in position to eventually extend their lead to 14.

Defensive Highlights
Detroit's defense held last year's Superbowl Champs at bay in the season opener, led by C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Alex Anzalone, who paced the team with five solo tackles apiece. Following a Gardner-Johnson pass breakup with two minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the two paid homage to their roots in the Swamp.
